Carry the Torch

Honor Sarah’s legacy through targeted giving in her memory.

Whether it’s remembering experiences at school, making memories at summer camp or playing on the soccer field with her friends, Sarah brought light and love to those around her. We honor Sarah by providing funding for those who continue to create experiences and memories for children today.

  • Camp Orkila: The Sarah M. Hughes Campfire Pit

Sarah was a passionate camper and spent several sessions at Camp Orkila where she embraced the zip-line, big swing, campfire skits and bunk room lodging. We chose to fund Camp Orkila and The Sarah M. Hughes Campfire Pit because it embodies Sarah’s spirit of gathering, coziness and spreading light and love.

  • Bertschi School: The Sarah M. Hughes Endowment Fund

Sarah attended Bertschi School from grades K-3 and embraced all things Bertschi, from art to science, acting to reading. The foundation created the Sarah M. Hughes endowment fund to provide financial aid to children of faculty and staff. We chose to give to Bertschi School so that others could enjoy the school as much as Sarah did.

  • Run of Hope: The Sarah M. Hughes Team Award

Sarah inspired us all at the Run of Hope with her overwhelming spirit and community support. Each year the Run of Hope gives the Sarah M. Hughes Team Fundraising Award in Sarah’s honor to the team with the highest fundraising dollars.

  • The Pink Bandanas: Raising Money in Sarah's Honor

The Pink Bandanas are a group of friends who raise money for pediatric brain tumor research. The name comes from the pink bandanas Sarah wore when undergoing chemotherapy. Their goal is to ensure children don't have to go through what Sarah and her family had to endure.
